 When
confronted by the overwhelming task of world evangelization, Jesus
said, "Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore,
to send out workers into His harvest field." Matthew 9:38
"God's whirlwinds are not planned up, organized up or preached
up; they are prayed down." In every mighty movement of God "someone
had prayed the price to break the ice." Tim Crosby in Adventist

Pray for Missionaries. There is nothing a missionary
needs more than your prayers. You can find lists of them in the
"Adventist Review." You can read their stories in "Adventist
Frontiers" and the "Mission" quarterlies. Write the missionaries
and ask them to send you their specific prayer needs. Pray for their
physical protection from danger and illness. Pray for the power
of evil to be overcome within the people for which they work. Pray
that "God may open a door for our message" where they are working
(Col. 4:3). Pray for their marriages and their children.
Pray for Countries and Their Leaders (1 Timothy 2:1,2).
- Read through the book "Operation World" (Patrick
Johnstone, Zondervan Publishing House) which covers the entire
world and its spiritual needs in one year of daily readings. An
online version is available at www.operationworld.org
as well as a CD-ROM, maps and overheads. "Window on the
World" (also Zondervan) colorfully pictures the same
for children.
- "Praying through the Window, The Unreached Peoples"
(YWAM Publishing) presents a focused summary of countries, especially
unreached, needing prayer.
- To pray for the persecuted get the book "Please Pray
for Us" by Johan Companjen, Bethany House.
- You can also pray through your newspaper and magazines.
Pray for Pastors, Church Leaders & Members. Your
own church can become a mighty army. Only God can light the spark,
fan the flame and set the world on fire. He waits for prayer. Pray
specifically for the children in your church to become missionaries.
Call Others to Prayer. Involve other church members,
including children in prayer through organizing small groups. Together
create prayer folders with pictures, requests and praises. Make
prayer place mats with missionaries and nations to be prayed for
at each blessing.
