It's never too late to use your skills in missions.
Options abound for the golden years. And you don't necessarily have
to go far!
There are many volunteer positions available overseas.
Some positions require people who have a degree and, therefore,
student missionaries who are still in college cannot be used. This
is especially true of English language institutions. Senior citizens
are highly respected overseas where often only young missionaries
are seen. Many positions are open for one to two years and many
retirees have gone.
Or, what about tutoring a student who
needs help in an area you know a lot about?
Students today (kids of all ages) are under a lot
of stress in school and could greatly benefit by your attention
and help. Sometimes it just helps to know someone is there who cares
and is praying for them.
You could even become a "grandma" or "grandpa"
to a child (or even a teenager or adult!) who doesn't have one.
Never underestimate the power for good that a healthy relationship
with grandparents can have.
Or, if you and your husband have a successful, loving
marriage, why not consider mentoring a younger, newly-wed couple?
They can learn a lot from you about love, forgiveness,
and how to have a spiritual home filled with God's love and peace.
Share your experiences today and let the Holy Spirit work in all
your lives!
To find out the needs in your community, check with
your local church and/or city to find out what programs are already
in place or where the specific needs are in your area. You CAN
make a difference in someone's life - and that difference may help
them to understand the love that God has for them and give them
a desire to follow Christ.
And don't forget that you can always help
with local church outreach projects, short-term mission
trips and whatever else you are able to do!
Pray about it and see where God leads
you!
