A. Be Prepared - The best preparation is a close
relationship with Jesus (1 John 4:4).
- Every day, ask for and receive a new heart and the Holy Spirit
(Ezekiel 36:26,27).
- Surrender your desires and accept God's will. Make Him Lord.
Make a clear and firm resolve. (Romans 6:22, James 4:7).
- Focus on the character qualities of Jesus that you are lacking
(2 Corinthians 3:18).
- Remind yourself of the destructive nature of the sins you fall
into, even "little" sins (Romans 6:23).
- Fill your mind with promises that match your need and that will
increase your faith, then claim them! Meditate on God's word and
memorize what you need (2 Peter 1:3-4).
- Grow in confidence that God is good enough and powerful enough
to help you overcome no matter how many times you've fallen (Jude
24).
- Picture yourself as victorious in the very situations where
you usually fail. Visualize success (Colossians 3:1-4).
- Remove all possible temptations (Romans 13:14 KJV).
- Ask friends to pray for you and hold you accountable by checking
in with you (James 5:16).
B. Resist Temptation in the Moment by Faith in
Christ's Strength (Ephesians 6:16,17).
- Listen for a still small voice telling you what's wrong and
right (Isaiah 30:21).
- Cry "Help!" "I can't, but You can." (On
your knees!)
- Claim Promises with a "Thanks!" (Ephesians 6:6,17)
(Remember temptation is not sin - James 1:14,15, reject wrong
thoughts as the tempter's voice and believe you are a new person
with good thoughts and desires through Christ.)
- Act on God's commandments and the still small voice. Just
do it! Run!
C. Reflect on Your Experience and Learn from It.
